Omar’s Diary Friday 19th September 2014

I broke off from trying to disembowel my toy mouse this morning to watch the news with my servants and see that Scotland voted NO in the independence referendum. That seemed to cheer them both up before they went off to do whatever they do away from home.

The man servant is supposed to be going to Glasgow in a couple of weeks and quipped ‘Oh well, it will be regional flight instead of an international’.

It suits me when they go out for the day as I have the place to myself for a few hours, well not quite to myself, as there are the Chavs from next door who frequent the place during the day. They are always welcome as long as they stick to our territorial and rights of access agreement. Nothing in writing as felines cannot write but a convention that both sides agree to in order to make life easier for all concerned.  As long as they respect that convention I can get on with my specialist subject of sleeping undisturbed. It is what I am good at.

Both the servants were very late home tonight. They looked tired. Not only did they get caught in traffic they also had to help his parents try to fix their TV who live about twenty miles away in the wrong direction.

My man servant is very nice but don’t ask him even to attempt anything like fixing a TV. He has some understanding of gadgets but it is mostly limited to the simple functionality of the on/off switch. Anything beyond that usually results in profuse cranial sweating and exasperated moans of frustration. After an unsuccessful hour he gave up on the TV and came home with lady servant.

Anyway, to try and cheer them up I chased some imaginary shadows around the living room. Some went across the floor while others moved along the net curtains in the front window. It was great fun running along the window sill and then jumping over the sofa to land on the coffee table rearranging the damask and fruit bowl towards the end of the table. Then back to the windowsill and oh, there is that imaginary moth just up there on the net curtains and if I jump up I might just be able to nab it…..

‘OMAR, not the curtains please?’

My servants are very polite and respectful.

‘Oh look, he has finished his play time’.

Yes, I have. Not because I wanted to as I love playing. I am just so exhausted after all that running around and stretching. Just have to lie down for a few minutes and get my composure back.

About alangrenville

I live in southern Britain near the fabulous New Forest. While studying for a BSc in International Studies I have developed a strong belief in 'NIBAW' or 'nothing is black and white'. Hence my favourite saying "Too often we...enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought" (John F Kennedy).
