Omar’s Diary Saturday 18th October 2014

Omar 13th Oct 14

I know you have all seen this picture of me before but my servants have just been so busy this week they have not had time  to update my status. Huge tutt and big sigh as I think I deserve better public exposure being the top feline in the house.

As I said, the servants have been busy this week what with lady servant travelling to London and man servant working in Ringwood.  Lots of comings and goings in the servant world and also in the feline world.

One of the ‘chavs’ from next door, her name is Mitzy and she has no tail, has officially moved in.  Her owners have tried to keep her settled in their house but Mitzy has made her own mind up and migrated over the fence for a better life with us.  Unlike the masses of refugees in the Middle East who are fleeing from their homes primarily for their own safety and security in the face of military and civil unrest but also to try and secure a better life in a new country.  All of them risk their lives by walking across rough desert terrain or crossing from Libya to Italy in dangerous boats that often sink before landfall.  I cannot imagine how bad life is in their own regions to force them to take these risks but it must be pretty bad.

Today is a special day at Ascot race course as it is Champions Day.  Both servants are in a fantasy racing league which finishes today.  Man servant is a bit hacked off as being a so called ‘expert’ in matters of the turf he is languishing in third place.  Not third place from the top but third from the bottom.  Whereas lady servant is within striking distance of the current league leader.  The man servant is desperate to improve his position as I watched him make his selections.  He chose two from each race, one at short odds and then the rank outsider.  I believe this type of selection process is referred to as ‘pin sticking’.

For any of you interested his ‘desperate’ selections are:

1:45 Flying Officer and Whiplash Willie  (Something Freudian and disturbing about his second choice)

2:20 An Saighduir and Eton Forever

2:55 Tasaday and We’ll Go Walking

3:30 Captain Cat and Charm Spirit  (He chose these with me in mind)

4:05 Pether’s Moon and Ayrad

Any way, all will be revealed by the end of the last race this afternoon.

I live in southern Britain near the fabulous New Forest. While studying for a BSc in International Studies I have developed a strong belief in 'NIBAW' or 'nothing is black and white'. Hence my favourite saying "Too often we...enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought" (John F Kennedy).
